Grid Cell

Alternating stacks of flat bar and crimped ribbon form a consistent/solid surface that allow full flow through of gas without allowing any of the insulation beads to migrate.

Flame Arrestor

Spiral Cell

Ribbon is welded to a core and wrapped around itself. This creates narrow channels that lazy flames can’t pass through. Not compatible with all flame fronts/configurations.

Why Flame Arrestors?

Flame arrestors are a critical safety device and a component in the safe operation of vapor control systems. They are a device fitted to the opening of an enclosure or to the connecting pipe work of a system of enclosures and whose intended function is to allow flow but prevent the transmission of flame propagating at supersonic velocity. Flame arrestors are passive devices with no moving parts. They prevent the propagation of flame from the exposed side of the enclosed flare system to the protected side using metal matrix creating a tortuous path called a flame cell or element.

Offering a wide array of flame arrestor technology, Prism has a choice for every configuration. The selection of the appropriate arrester depends on the flammable properties of the vapor/air mixture, operating conditions as well as how and where the arrester is installed with respect to the potential ignition source. The user must be assured that the arrester selected has been tested for conditions that match or exceed the intended application.

Optimized Cleaning & Reconditioning.

The Prism SS Detonation Arrestor combustion tech was designed around the cleaning and reconditioning of the unit and has been extensively engineered and tested to do not just one job, but many. The unique grid assembly flare stack flame arrestor is a series of accurately and evenly spaced flat bars that are welded securely into the cell. The grid assembly also greatly improves the continuous burn rating, and acts as a protective guard for debris that may travel in the piping system.

The grid assembly of the arrestor is arranged so that it is cleanable and rebuildable, saving future maintenance expenses. Once the used element has been removed, it can be shipped back to the factory to be cleaned and checked. At the factory, the media is removed. Then the cell assembly is sandblasted, cleaning all debris from channels, surfaces, and housing. After blasting, a thorough inspection is done to assure that the housing is totally intact. Once the inspection is complete, the unit is then recharged with new alumina ceramic, sealed, painted, and put in stock.

End of the Line Detonation and Standard Flame Arrestors

At Prism, we offer a choice for every configuration. The Prism Integrated Solutions Inc. End of Line Detonation and Standard Flame Arrestors group can be arranged in many different configurations. We can configure these units using USCG accepted Detonation Flame arrestors, CSA witnessed Detonation Flame arrestors, Deflagration Flame arrestors or high-grade flame arrestors. Shown here are a few of the different configurations from which to choose.

Prism can assemble a variety of products upon your request. These sizes range from 2″ to 12″, and come in CS, 304 S.S., 316 S.S., Hastaloy, etc. These units have USCG acceptance and CSA verification of performance. These approvals assure that your products will be protected from fire and explosion. Flow curves and gas classifications are available upon request.

Crimped Ribbon Standard Flame Arrestor

The Prism STD crimped ribbon flare stack flame arrestors are designed to provide protection in low pressure deflagration applications. These units are available in many different configurations with ease of flare stack installation and maintenance in mind. If you have a specific design requirement or need specialty alloy housings or flame cells, Prism has the combustion engineering knowledge and facilities to custom design and manufacture a unit to suit your requirements.

Prism has expanded our metal crimping facilities and recently designed and built an improved metal crimping machine. With these new facilities, we can offer custom crimping services. We can custom crimp and roll any size of material you require. (Standard width is 4”)
