Why Flare Stacks?

A flare is used in a refinery or petrochemical facility to combust relieved waste gases safely and efficiently. The flare is often portrayed as the end of line device and plays an extremely important operating role in an emergency such as a power failure or fire. The critical nature of a flare stack requires the design to operate 24-hours a day, for months on end without disruption. Prism Smokeless Flare Tips

As an elevated design innovation, Prism’s Smokeless Flare Tip assemblies convert a smoking stack to smokeless. The principal workings of the units utilize force to mix oxygen with the flare gas, thus enhancing the burning efficiency of the hydrocarbon molecules. Our air assist flare packages can be adapted to existing stacks in the field or to custom built for new products being manufactured.

ESD Knockout Drums (ESD KO’S)

Prism has designed and tested our ESD Knockout Drums to prevent the flooding of flare stacks which may result in environmental spills, grass or crop fires or equipment damage.

This atmospheric pressure rated system serves acts as a fluid knockout for the flare stack and an Emergency Shut Down to shut production in if the accumulated fluid level in the knockout drum rises past a set level. As the fluid accumulates in the drum, it lifts the internal float arm which rotates the external indicator that triggers a limit switch, which in turn closes the inlet line to the separator. This ensures that if the separator floods, it would shut down the inlet flow from the wellhead, thus preventing a stack flood. Also, if accumulated fluid builds up in the knockout, it will shut down the inlet valve.
